Physical Therapy

• Comprehensive physical therapy evaluation and treatment
• Standardized developmental evaluation & treatment including the Peabody, Bailey and Bruiniks-Oseretsky
• Equipment consultation including:
         Wheelchair evaluations
         Positioning equipment
• Aquatic physical therapy at the Jarstad Aquatic Center in Bremerton and the Poulsbo Athletic Club in Poulsbo
• Torticollis and Plagiocephaly treatment
• Casting and fitting of ankle, foot braces and orthotics
• Instruction in home exercises and play activities
• NDT (Neurodevelopmental Treatment) trained therapists
• Family and assistive caregiver education and training

Speech Therapy

• Comprehensive speech and language evaluation and treatment
• Individual therapy for children with Autism/Asperger’s Syndrome, including work in social communication skills
• Therapy for disorders of fluency including stuttering
• Alternative and augmentative communication therapy, including Picture Exchange (PECS), and use of electronic communication devices.
• Therapy for verbal apraxia and other disorders of articulation
• Therapy for developmental language disorders
• Observation room with one-way window allows family viewing of treatment sessions
• Family and assistive caregiver education and training

Reading Evaluation and Instruction

• Children with difficulties in speech and language are at risk for developing specific reading disabilities. Early intervention is essential for children who struggle with reading.

• Comprehensive evaluation of language and literacy skills.
• Multi-sensory instruction is used to help children develop automatic associations through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic modalities (i.e., sight, sound, and feel).
• Areas of instruction include:
  • Phonological awareness – The ability to hear and manipulate sounds in words (e.g., rhyming, blending sounds into words) is essential in reading.
  • Letter/sound identification – Children need to be automatic in their recognition of letters and sounds in order to become fluent readers.
  • Word decoding – Instruction focuses on helping children recognize letter sounds and spelling patterns in words.
  • Spelling – Studying word structure and spelling generalizations gives children tools for spelling rather than relying on memory.
  • Reading comprehension – Structured reading tasks focus on increasing fluency and comprehension. Studying word roots, grammar, and sentence structure builds comprehension.

• Individual therapy sessions allow skills to be taught systematically, building on your child’s previous success and improving confidence.
